M.A:  This is Madeleine Angel with Kickball Katy from the band, Vivian Girls.

M.A: So, Katy what are your views on the Russian government trying to put Pussy Riot in jail?

Katy Goodman: I think it’s totally unfair. It’s an outrage not just to me, but also to the whole world. I feel like everyone is really reacting to it because of how unfair it is. And Vivian Girls, we’re just happy to do anything we can to support them and stand in solidarity with them.

M.A: What’s next for Vivian Girls?

Katy: We’re working on songs, hanging out and I think next year we’re going to start doing stuff again like all the time. But for now were still kind of on our little vacation where we’re doing like bands and things. I think next year we’re going to start and pick it back up.

M.A: How about La Sera?

Katy: La Sera is going on tour for a month this fall with Father John Misty. It’s a full U.S. tour and that’s all I have planned for La Sera right now.

M.A: What would you call your “style” right now?

Katy: I’m going for “Kindergartener.”  Trying to look like I’m in Kindergarten ha-ha. I have the white shoes with pink socks. Cause the other day I put on white shoes with white socks and I was like “oh I look like a Toddler in Tiaras.” You know like they wear white shoes and white socks.

M.A: Like Honey Boo Boo ha-ha

Katy: Yeah like Honey Boo Boo! I was like I want to look more like them ha-ha.

M.A: Thanks Katy!

Katy: Anytime!

M.A: This Madeleine Angel with Cassie Ramone from the band Vivian Girls.

M.A: So what are your views on the Russian government trying to put Pussy Riot in jail?

Cassie: I mean honestly I think it’s really fucked up I think it’s insane. I don’t think I have anything else to say about it that more intelligent people haven’t all ready said.  So I shouldn’t really try to wax idealist about it. But, obviously I think it’s insanely fucked up.

M.A: Yeah, so what’s next for Vivian Girls?

Cassie: We’re slowly working on new songs and maybe going to put together a new album, but it probably won’t be out for a while. We are kind of starting to work on it right now.

M.A: Why did you decide to do this show?

Sweaty Crowd Surfing!!!!

Sweaty Crowd Surfing!!!!

Cassie: Because, we just thought we should do what we could to help out the cause and I think that with throwing a benefit show. Is that actions speak louder than words. I think it’s easy for people to just write about things on their Twitters or Tumblrs or whatever, but it’s harder for people to actually take a stand.  So, I think that’s the reason why we decided to put the show together, because we wanted to actually make a statement and actually raise money for them. Instead of just saying something.

M.A: Yeah just real people connecting and helping towards this cause at this show.

Cassie: Yeah literally all of the money is going toward their legal defense fund so we thought that was a better way to help out rather than just talking about it.

M.A: Thanks Cassie!

This is Madeleine Angel with Ali Koehler from the band Vivian Girls.

M.A:  So what do you think about the Russian government trying to put Pussy Riot in jail?

Ali: I mean the fact that someone could be imprisoned for something as simple as playing music is absurd to me. I was very fortunate because I grew up in place where you have freedom of speech and you have no repercussions no matter what you say and it’s kind of just a wake up call. I feel like when you live in the U.S. you kind of tend to forget about how good you have it. And then you see stuff like that it’s really scary that you’re rights could be taken away like that. I think it’s horrible thing, but I mean there’s a silver lining to everything. I think it’s a good thing that some people are hopefully realizing that you know nothing is permanent in the way you have it. Right now it couldn’t be like that in the future depending on government.

M.A: What’s next for Vivian Girls?

Ali: We’re recording a new album. We played our first show together as Katy, Cassie and me for the first time in two years in San Diego of July 2012. So we all really missed each other and get along really well. We kind of just meshed together well musically and we have had enough time to realize that’s a rare thing to find in other people. So we’re really excited about working together again and coming up with new songs. We already have two new songs we have pretty much finished. So yeah, early 2013, I’m sure we will be recording something. I don’t know if it’s an album or 7 inch or what, but definitely new stuff from the three of us!

M.A:  What would you call your “style” right now?

Ali: My look right now, ha-ha, umm lazy?? I feel like I consider trying really hard for a little bit and then decided that I didn’t feel like it.

M.A: Off and on?

Ali: Yeah I don’t know I just try to look nice and then I realize that feeling nice is more important than looking nice. I feel like as long as I’m comfortable and wearing band shirts and stuff.  It makes me happy to support bands that I like.

Stage: BANG Crasssh!!  An (Oh noooo!)

Ali: Whoa that was my drum cymbal, but that’s okay ha-ha. But, yeah just wearing what you feel comfortable with despite what’s in magazines!

M.A: Well, thanks Ali!

Ali: No problem.
